I have a name....other than Foo!

Well, mommy and daddy finally found out this morning that I am a girl! Mommy was so excited and she was able to tell daddy that she was right, and he was wrong, which she always enjoys doing! Daddy is also very excited. I am now called Riley, instead of "foo" or "it". My full name will be Riley Elizabeth O'Neill. Mommy has also finally started to gain a little weight. She has now gained 5 lbs during this pregnancy. In addition to showing my gender, the ultrasound also showed two arms, two legs, five fingers on each hand, five toes on each foot, all the correct parts of the brain, a 4 chambered heart, and the kidney and stomach. The doctor said that I look perfect! Mommy will have her next appointment in 4 weeks, but nothing much will really happen then.

Movin' and Groovin'!!

I've been dancing around for weeks now, but mommy has been too busy to notice, I guess. Now, there is no doubting it though. Mommy felt me move for the first time last Friday, May 25, and since then she's been noticing it more and more. Today she has already felt my little "kicks", "nudges", and "punches" several times. I'm not quite big enough for her to feel it from the outside yet, and of course daddy is very jealous that mommy gets to feel me move and he doesn't. He'll just have to wait a few more weeks, though, and then he should be able to feel everything that mommy feels!

I'm coming right along.....!

Mommy went to the doctor today and she got to hear my heart beat again! The doctor found it right away with the little doppler machine. My heart beat at that moment was 154. Mommy also talked to the doctor about child birth classes and an Aquamoms class that is offered at the hospital. Her doctor (Dr. Joan Schieber) highly recommended the Aquamoms class. Mommy thought that she was going to get out of wearing a swimming suit this summer while she was pregnant, but it doesn't sound like that is going to happen! Mommy also convinced the doctor to do the BIG ultrasound (including gender identification) at 18 weeks, instead of waiting all the way to 20 weeks like Dr. Schieber originally wanted. So, on June 18 (which also happens to be mommy and daddy's 2nd wedding anniversary), they will FINALLY know what gender I am! What a cool anniversary present for them. I was hoping the doctor would agree to let mommy do the ultrasound at 18 weeks, because mommy was talking about buying a urine test that claims to be able to tell you the gender of the baby after 10 weeks, or even peeing on Drano crystals. Mommy was really starting to go nuts!

Foo's First Plane Ride!

I went on my first airplane ride this past week, and boy was it an adventure!! Mommy and her supervisor left Kansas City at about 2:30 PM on this past Tuesday, heading for Columbus, Ohio. First we had to stop in Chicago and change planes, though. We we got over Chicago and were getting ready to land, when the person flying the plane came over the loud speaker and annouced that both airports in Chicago were closed due to weather and we had to go BACK to Kansas City! Everyone on the plane was so upset. So, we got back to Kansas City, waited for about 45 minutes, and then left again for Chicago (because the airport opened back up). We finally landed in Chicago, but of course the connection flight to Columbus was already gone. Luckily, they had already booked mommy and her supervisor on a different flight. So, they FINALLY get to Columber at 10:00 PM, to find that they had no luggage! So mommy had to sleep with no pyjamas and with her contacts in, not knowing if she would have clothes for the next morning. Luckily, mommy called down to the hotel desk in the morning, 45 minutes before the conference was set to start, and they said that they had her luggage!! She was so exicted to be able to wear some clean clothes. Don't worry, the ride back home was uneventful (I don't think mommy could have taken much more excitement)!

Maternity Clothes, Here I Come!

Well, it's official...mommy can no longer wear her normal clothes. As of today she is completely in maternity clothes (and yes, with me not even being 12 weeks old yet). I'm just glad to not have those pants with the stiff waist bands crushing me anymore, and it will be nice to not have mommy's belly on display for all who want to see (because the shirts were getting a little short)!
